Frequently Asked Questions

What is STRC?

STRC (Stretch Preferred) is a perpetual preferred stock issued by Strategy (formerly MicroStrategy). It has a $100 par value and a variable dividend rate. Strategy uses STRC at-the-market offerings to raise capital, then deploys the proceeds — net of issuance fees — into Bitcoin for its corporate treasury.

What is an at-the-market (ATM) offering?

An at-the-market offering lets Strategy sell new STRC shares directly into the open market at prevailing prices, rather than via a single block trade. Whenever STRC trades at or above $100 par, the company can issue new shares against the order book — that's the ATM mechanism. The proceeds (net of a 2.5% agent fee) are used to acquire Bitcoin and are confirmed via weekly SEC 8-K filings.

How does STRC Tracker estimate daily Bitcoin purchases?

We sum every STRC trade that occurred at or above $100 par each trading day. That dollar volume is multiplied by the active capture rate (the historical fraction of STRC ATM proceeds converted to Bitcoin, derived from recent 8-K reconciliations) and divided by the day's BTC price. The result is an estimate of how much Bitcoin Strategy likely acquired with that day's ATM proceeds. Weekly totals are confirmed the following Monday via SEC 8-K filings on the Activity tab.

Why do some days show 0 BTC accumulated?

We apply a $1M minimum ATM volume floor before counting any Bitcoin accumulation for the day. Sub-threshold volume is treated as zero — it's typically noise rather than real ATM issuance activity. This threshold matches the model used by the STRC Tracker iOS app and prevents tiny one-off trades from being misread as Bitcoin purchases.

How accurate are the estimates?

Daily numbers are model-derived from STRC trading volume; weekly totals are confirmed against SEC 8-K filings the Monday after the trading week closes. Confirmed rows on the Activity tab are marked SEC VERIFIED and are authoritative. Estimates for the current in-progress week may shift slightly when the actual 8-K lands.

Where does the data come from?

STRC trade data comes from Alpaca's market-data API. Bitcoin price comes from CoinGecko. SEC 8-K filings come directly from EDGAR, the SEC's public filings system. News items are pulled from CoinDesk RSS, Strategy's press releases page, and a curated set of Bitcoin and Strategy YouTube channels.

How often does the data update?

The live dashboard polls every 60 seconds during market hours. The activity feed, 8-K parser, and daily snapshot store refresh every 15 minutes via background jobs. Bitcoin price and the STRC chart refresh in lockstep with the dashboard.

Is STRC Tracker affiliated with Strategy?

No. STRC Tracker is an independent project. All data displayed here comes from public sources — SEC EDGAR filings, public stock-market trades, and CoinGecko's BTC price feed. We have no business relationship with Strategy, Michael Saylor, or any of their affiliates. Nothing on this site is financial advice.
